The building and the facility
In 1967 the current facility was inaugurated, designed with innovative architectural criteria, so much so that it is considered, to this day, an integral part of the city's contemporary urban heritage.
The Bologna Bus Station is, in fact, unique in Italy, comparable in functionality and size to the large stations operating in many European and American countries.
Its total area is 17,000 square meters.
The facility is divided into several sections: the shunting yard, the building housing offices and commercial activities, and the forecourt in front of the building.
The bus maneuvering and handling apron houses:
An arrivals sidewalk of more than 170 meters
A departures sidewalk capable of ensuring the maneuvering of 24 buses simultaneously
A central sidewalk designated for the handling and parking of tour buses
A passenger sidewalk with benches and waiting rooms, restrooms and information boards. The sidewalk is covered by extensive canopies so as to provide appropriate shelter for arriving or departing travelers
A luggage storage service
The signal movement of the shunting yard is automated and can regulate up to 1400 departures daily. The office that presides over the traffic and operation of the entire facility operates daily, for the entire opening hours from 00.00 to 24.00.
